Client: SCA Hygiene Products
Location: Trafford Park, Manchester
Requirement: New Canopy
Programme: 9 weeks
Designer: Revolution DPM
SCA required a new 40m wide canopy to join two existing canopys. The brief was to build a structure spanning the full 40m distance in between the existing structures. This was to minimise clashes with any supporting steelwork and therefore maximise the usable area.
Revolution DPM were appointed to design all the civil and structural elements and Hawkins Construction carried out the build as principal contractor. We worked closely with the designer to arrive at the single spanning lattice arrangement, standing on just four columns. This involved tandem lifting with two cranes in close proximity to existing structures and plant.
The four columns were founded on large reinforced concrete bases, each supported by 11m deep CFA RC piles. To facilitate the piled foundations some existing 600mm diameter site drainage had to be diverted.
The project was delivered on budget and on programme.
